This calculators allows you to score potential candidates to replace Bank of England Governor Mark Carney, who leaves in 2020, on six criteria to discover the best contender for the job.

The yardsticks are given in order of importance and each is assigned a weighting that is inversely related to its place in the list. That means the first criterion, central bank has a weighting of 6. The lowest weighting, of 1, is assigned to the last yardstick, a familiarity with cricket and Monty Python sketches, which is a proxy for a candidate’s ability to claim they have some understanding of British culture and character. The total score for each candidate determines where they appear in the ranking at the top.

Breakingviews has reserved a mystery slot for you to evaluate a contender of your choice who is not in the shortlist.
